The project’s brief was to re-design an existing object in order to make it more sustainable and aesthetically “home friendly”. Often fitness tools take space inside our homes, but most of the times they end up being hidden somewhere because of their look or weird materials, taking up useful storage space. Gotama is a Yoga wheel, not only more sustainable than its competitors, but also more able to live inside the house without clashing with furniture.
The project’s innovative part is the disassemblable components: the structure and padding are completely detachable and therefore completely recyclable or replaceable/repairable. The chosen materials are also more sustainable: the structure is made of plywood, while the padding is made of felt from recycled PET. |
Thanks to the disassemblable components, new functions can be added to the classic Yoga wheel: textures, Different textures on the padding make it possible to also use the wheel as a massage tool (just like foam rollers). The object can easily change its look, becoming almost a piece of sculputre inside the house, revaluating in this way the role of fitness objects (and any other object) inside our homesConsidering only the environmental impact of the materials, Gotama is 2,8% more sustainable than other wheels. Meanwhile, considering the disassembly factors and calculating the recycling and repairing of each component, the wheel can be from 58% up to 67% more sustainable than its competitors on the market. |
